Convection Wood Heaters create heat by circulating warm air around the room. Wood heaters with convection chambers include an air space that allows an almost constant circulation of air – as warm air rises it is displaced by cooler air, which then warms up from the stove and rises up to follow. This cycle creates a flow throughout the room with the hottest air pushing up to the ceiling and the warm air remaining in the lower part of the room. Convection heat builds up more gradually than heat in a radiant heater, but will soon provide even, well-distributed warmth to the entire living space as opposed to more localised and intense heat. Convection wood heaters are ideal for well insulated homes with standard height ceilings. All Jarrahdale convection heaters have the option of a 2-speed fan to help push the heat around the home.
A Radiant Wood Heater works by releasing infrared heat directly from its outer surface onto surrounding objects. There are no heat shields on a Radiant Heater to allow for rapid heat emission. This results in quicker heat transfer and more heat being retained in the lower portion of the room, as opposed to a convection heater which offers more controlled, circulated heat release. Radiant Wood Heaters are recommended for homes with high ceilings or draughty/less insulated homes as they efficiently heat the immediate living space.
