What is Ducted Evaporative Cooling?
A Ducted Evaporative Cooling system includes a rooftop unit and ducting that pushes air throughout the home via ceiling vents.
Evaporative cooling works by drawing external air over cool, wet pads in the rooftop unit. This cooled and humidified air is then distributed into your home, and warm air is pushed out through open doors and windows.
Evaporative cooling is particularly suited to Perth’s hot, dry climate and works best when the humidity is low. When conditions are optimal, a good evaporative cooling system should be able to reduce the internal temperature by up to 10 degrees celcius. However, this depends on the level of humidity outside.
When operating an evaporative system it is important to have your doors and windows partially opened to ensure a continuous flow of cool air.
Ducted Evaporative is an excellent option if you want:
- A continuous flow of fresh, filtered outside air, low in allergens.
- Low-cost whole-home cooling. Evaporative cooling is up to 85% cheaper to run than reverse-cycle
- Doors and windows open during system operation.

Is Ducted Evaporative Cooling right for my home?
Benefits
-
Energy Efficiency - uses significantly less electricity compared to a refrigerated system.
-
Lower costs to buy and operate. Pay as little as $50 per year to run your system.
-
Environmentally friendly home cooling. Producing up to 85% less carbon emissions.
-
System maintains efficiency with doors and windows open - great for entertaining and alfresco living.
-
Adds moisture to the air. This can be beneficial in dry, arid regions and may prevent respiratory discomfort.
Considerations
-
Cooling only system. An alternative source of home heating is required such as a wood heater or gas log fire.
-
Limited effectiveness in humid conditions. System is reliant on dry air to evaporate water and cool your home.
-
Less cooling power in extreme heat compared to refrigerated options.
-
Windows must be partially open while system is running. A consideration if noise reduction and security are paramount.
